Quarter Miler, Ogazi Samuel Bags Team Nigeria's 3rd CYG Gold Medal

TEAM Nigeria’s impressive outing at the seventh edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), currently ongoing in the Caribbean got even better on Tuesday with Ogazi Samuel winning the men’s 400 meters Gold medal in a time of 46.99 Secs.

Samuel’s winning time was almost a full second, ahead of the winner of the Silver medal, Austin Malachi of Guyana,  who was  2nd in 47.97 Secs and Beck Alexander of England who clinched the Bronze, by finishing in 3rd position with 48.20 Secs.

Another Nigerian youngster in the final Olawale Olarwnwaju finished in the 7th spot, with a time of 49 Seconds.

Team Nigeria is competing at the Games being held in the Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago with 25 athletes, aged between fourteen (14) and eighteen (18) years.

Australia sits at the summit of the log with 13 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. England is second with 9 Gold, 12 Silver and 5 Bronze medals; while Africa’s best-performing nation at the Games, is South Africa whose 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, puts them at 4th.
