NKEM Okeke, Anambra State Deputy Governor, has said issues concerning the renaming of Abakaliki Street in Awka would soon be resolved amicably.
Okeke was reacting to a letter from Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi concerning the renaming of Abakaliki Street in Awka.
The letter was delivered by a delegation led by Secretary to Ebonyi State government, Hyginus Nkwokwu.
The deputy governor who represented Governor Willie Obiano promised to deliver the letter to the governor.
“We had a very good discussion on the issue and hopefully in no distant time, this matter will be resolved amicably,’’ Okeke said.
Anambra State government renamed former Abakaliki Street in Awka to Club Road because of the nature of activities ongoing in the area.
Okeke described the meeting as cordial and free of rancour.
“These are two sister states; two brother states, we have Anambra people in Ebonyi while Ebonyi have a lot of their people in Anambra. So, there is no need for any rancour,’’ he said.
The deputy governor called on the people to dismiss social media hype on the issue.
“These are two governments trying to do right for their people and make their states move forward.
“l thank Mr Nkwokwu and other members of the delegation for visiting the state and then, prayed for their journey mercies back to their state’’.
Present at the meeting include, Primus Odili, the chief of staff to the governor, Solo Chukwulobelu, the secretary to the State Government, and Leo Nwuba, Awka South Transition Committee chairman.
