THE House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to provide relief materials to victims of flood in Mayo-Selbe and Serti Towns in Gashaka Local Government Areas of Taraba.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. David Fuoh (PDP-Taraba) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday

Presenting the motion, Fuoh said that on Oct 3. there was flooding in Mayo-Selbe town in Gashaka LGA of Taraba which destroyed farmlands, houses and other property worth millions of naira.

He said that the flood also cut off the only access road linking villages in the community.
He said as a result of the flood some of the inhabitants were turned to Internally Displaced Persons and taking temporarily shelter in public buildings, such as schools, mosques and churches

Adopting the motion, the House urged the Ministry of Environment and the Ecological Fund Office to embark on erosion control and land reclamation in the affected areas.

The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assess the level of damage and provide relief materials to the affected victims and mandated its Committee on Works to ensure compliance.(NAN)
