Sale emerges winner at Spanish Embassy visual arts contest

MR Godday Sale, has emerged winner at the 2022 Spanish Embassy visual arts contest in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday reports that over 70 artists from all over Nigeria participated at the 17th edition of the Visual Arts competition.

However, three out of the 70 artists emerged winners in first, second and third position at the art exhibition and they were awarded with prizes according to their positions.

This year’s contest has as its theme: ‘Rediscovery Art, a Sustainable Perspective.’.

Sale, speaking at the award ceremony, said that the win was an unexpected one due to his late submission and was surprised the art work made him win.

He also thanked the embassy for organising such an art exhibition which gives Nigerian artists the opportunity to be recognised internationally.

Moses Njoku, who emerged second said that the art exhibition had given him the opportunity to travel to Abuja from the East adding that, this was his first win in the art world.

“I pray this is a stepping stone for me to gain exposure , also I urge everyone to repurpose waste materials to help in keeping the environment clean.

Speaking at the event, the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Juan Sell, said that the event has become one of the most relevant art activities in Abuja, which was also the cherished cultural agenda of the Embassy.

He said: “This year, we have joined forces with the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and we are happy to have this collaboration.

”The contest journey takes us to arts and sustainability, a very up to date reality.

“I do not dare to explain the artworks, they speak for themselves much better than I could do. We had over 70 Artists from all over the country who participated this year.”

Sell said that the 1st prize winner will have the opportunity to travel to ARCO in early 2023 and will have an opportunity to visit and experience live international art fair in ARCO in Madrid.

“Also, the 2nd and 3rd position winners are recognised at this event and will be able to have an exhibition at the Matrix gallery in 2023.

“An exhibition that SNA has kindly accepted to host in partnership with the Embassy”,he said.

Speaking also, the President of SNA , Mr. Muhammed Sulieman, said that the partnership with the embassy would contine which international will improve the economy situation of the country.

He added that Nigeria would always remember the importance of the collaboration between the Spanish embassy to boost the cultural area of Nigeria.

NAN reports that ARCO, which is called Art Madrid, is a contemporary art fair organised by the company “Arte y Asociados”, in Madrid since the year 2006. (NAN)
