A truck carrying about 150 migrants flipped over on Wednesday near Libya’s north-western town of Bani Walid, leaving at least 22 people dead, medical and security officials said.

The dead included a woman and a child, the medical source said on condition of anonymity.

The cause of the crash early on Wednesday was not clear.

The town’s hospital appealed to charity and civil society groups to offer immediate assistance to those injured in the accident.

“The situation is catastrophic. There are not enough resources to treat and shelter this large number of injured,” the hospital said in a statement, according to Libya’s news portal Africa Gate.
