THE Senate on Wednesday condemned in strong terms,the gruesome murder of Chalya Silas, a female  in NYSC member serving in Kaduna State.

Senate resolution followed consideration and adoption of a motion at plenary on Wednesday.

The motion titled ” Gruesome murder of a corps member Chalya Silas in Kaduna State was sponsored by Sen.Napoleon Bali (PDP-Plateau).

Bali in his lead debate noted with grief the gruesome murder of Chalya Grace Silas, a 24-year old NYSC Corp member on Oct 18.

He said Chalya was an enthusiastic NYSC member from Langtang-North Local Government area of Plateau State full of Life and promise, who actively contributed to community development projects during her assignment in Kaduna state;

“Aware that on October 18th Chalya whose dad is late and is the only child of her mother, was attacked and fatally stabbed by hoodlums while engaging in her regular morning jog while serving in Kaduna State.”

He expressed concern that her untimely demise at age of 24 underscores the security challenges faced by Nigeria.

This, he said serves as a stack reminder of the urgent need for improved security measures and safeguard the lives and aspirations of all citizens including vulnerable individuals like the NYSC members whose safety in recent times has been threatened by various security challenges.

He lamented that her demise was a great loss to her mother, siblings and her community.

Senate in its further resolution, having observed a minute silence in her honour
called on the Federal Government to work relentlessly towards safeguarding the lives of its citizens.

Deputy President of the Senate, Sen.Barau Jibrin, who presided plenary in his concluding remarks said:

“let me thank Senator Napoleon Bali for bringing forward this motion because the murder of this young girl is something that is very sad, the gruesome murder of a girl of just 24 years.

“We should not allow this kind of murder to continue happening in this country.

“It is therefore important that all our security agencies should be playing the roles they need to do to prevent this kind of murder from occurring on our land in the future,”Barau said.(NAN)
