ANAMBRA State Government has announced their readiness to offer scholarship to students who wish to enrol in various agricultural courses.

The scholarship scheme, which has been factored into the 2018 budget will commence next year, after the passage of the state’s budget.

Governor Willie Obiano announced this during the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA,  campaign rally at Achalla, Headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area.

According to him, our main aim of converting Anambra State College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu to polytechnic is to introduce some agricultural programmes that will contribute to meaningful our agricultural policy.

“There will be scholarship set aside for those who have interest to study basic agricultural programmes in the state polytechnic.

“We are doing all these to achieve our targeted food sufficiency, boost our production capacity and enhance export,’’ Obiano said.

He promised to procure five transformers for the area, so as to stabilise their power generation.

Obiano added that his administration had completed the installation of 15 KVA transmitter at Izuanaocha to circulate electricity to other communities in the area.

The governor said that Awka North LGA had benefited from the recent upgrade of 63 healthcare centre across the three senatorial zones to enable them to have access to the health insurance policy and other health-related care that the state had instituted.

He directed his Peace Committee to promptly intervene in the alleged destruction of farms by some herdsmen in the area, assuring them of adequate compensation when ascertained.

Earlier, the Council of Traditional Rulers in Awka North LGA, conferred the chieftaincy title of ‘Ugonwanne Awka North,’ on Obiano for exposing them to windows of production and export, which had given them financial stability.

Conferring the title, Igwe Chris Nnaegbuna, the traditional ruler of Ebenebe Kingdom, expressed their support to Obiano, especially in achieving his second term bid.

Boniface Okonkwo, the member representing Awka North in the State House of Assembly, said that Obiano continued with every project inherited from his predecessor, saying the Amansea – Ebenebe road would soon be completed.

Okonkwo re-assured the governor that Awka North LGA would vote massively for APGA on the November 18 election.

Chikodi Anara, the special adviser on Security Matters, said the present administration had invested and transformed every ministry and had judiciously managed the resources of the state.

Anara explained that Anambra had been leading in external competition, especially in education and sports.

Emeka  Onwuzuka , the transition committee chairman, Awka North LGA, pointed out that various capital projects in the LGA were ongoing, especially Ayamelum – Kogi Road, which would soon be completed.

Onwuzuka said that the completion of Awba-Ofemili Road would attract heavy commercial activities and contribute in building the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Godson Ezenagu, a major stakeholder in APGA, said the governor provided security, which in return, contributed to influx of investors.

Ebelechukwu Obiano, the wife of the governor, stressed that the visit was to re-echo the achievements of the present administration.

Mrs Obiano maintained that the governor had transformed Awka into a befitting capital city within his three years of administration.

“Through my pet project, `Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE)’, we have restored many lost hopes and touched many lives.

“We have built over 15 houses for widows and the needy in different communities.

“We have equally dug over 21 boreholes, trained and empowered many youths in different skills. We will continue all these to make the state a better place,” Mrs Obiano added.

She urged youths and women to protect their votes to avoid electoral malpractices.

The governor was conferred the title of “Ugonwanne, Awka North’’.
