Nigeria held to goalless draw by Ireland, qualify for knockout stage of Women's World Cup

THE Super Falcons of Nigeria were on Monday in Brisbane, Australia held to a goalless draw by the national team of the Republic of Ireland in their last match of Group B in the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup tournament being hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand.

Although the Super Falcons failed to utilize some of the crucial scoring chances they created during the match, they were able to garner 5 points from 3 matches to progress to the round of 16 of the tournament.

The performance of the Super Falcons so far, showed that the team played a goalless draw with Canada in their first match in Group B, defeated Australia 3-2 and played another goalless draw with Republic of Ireland in the third and final match of the group stage of the tournament.

With the conclusion of the matches in Group B, Australia topped the group with 6 points, having defeated Canada 4-0 in the last match, lost 2-3 to the Super Falcons and defeated Republic of Ireland 1-0 in their first match. Nigeria finished second with 5 points, while Canada finished third with 4 points and Republic of Ireland finished fourth with 1 point.
