Sylvester Onoja, educationist, administrator and former principal, King’s College, Lagos, 71, April 10. Born in Imane, Kogi State, he was educated at Native Authority Senior Primary School, Ofugo, Kogi State; Our Lady of Schools’ Teachers College, Anyigba; Advanced Teachers’ College, Zaria; University of Dakar, Senegal; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Onoja was employed as lecturer, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1975-1977; principal, St Peter’s College, Idah, 1977-1982; commissioner, Benue State Teaching Service Commission, 1982-1984; vice-principal, Federal School of Arts and Science, Suleja, Niger State; deputy director, National Educational Technology Centre, Kaduna; member, Board of Directors, Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation, Makurdi; acting director, National Educational Technology Centre, Kaduna, 1987. Onoja, who was commissioner for education in 2007 in Kogi State, was appointed by the federal government to head the committee assigned to upgrade facilities in unity schools in Nigeria.
