THE Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN) has confirmed that the newly installed 60 MVA transformer in Dan Agundi substation in Kano tripped, following a fault on the Kano DisCo 33kV club feeder.

TCN said the transformer did not break down two days after installation as speculated in some quarters.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said TCN’s power transformers were installed with high efficiency protection devices that usually tripped them when distribution feeders developed faults, to preserve the transformers.

“If the power transformers are not adequately protected, then any distribution fault would destroy the power transformers, which cost fortunes to install or replace.

“When the Dan Agundi transformer tripped on March 29,  TCN immediately informed Kano DisCo representatives who patrolled and cleared the fault before the power transformer was restored same day and wheeled 30 MW to Kano DisCo load centres,”she explained.

She said the Dan Agundi transformer was still in operation and supplying bulk power to the Kano DisCo load centres for onward distribution to customers.

Mbah said the several on-going transmission projects in various parts of the country were pointers that TCN was committed to increasing its capacity to wheel more reliable power to DisCos load centres nationwide.

She said TCN’s projects and commitment to wheeling more electricity were being supported by several multi-lateral donors and the Presidency. (NAN)
