WITH 46 days to the commencement of the Tokyo Olympics, Team Nigeria has intensified preparations for the Games.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tokyo-bound athletes like Elizabeth Anyanacho (Taekwondo), Tobi Amusan (Hurdles), Blessing Okagbare (Sprints) and Ese Brume (Long Jump) have been putting up impressive performances in their respective events.
Anyanacho was the star performer in Dakar as she settled for Silver medal at the just concluded 2021 African Taekwondo Championship.
In the finals, she lost narrowly 8-10 to World champion and Olympic Medalist, Ruth Gbagbi of Cote D’Ivoire, in the women’s -67kg to keep hope of her medal win in Tokyo alive.
Tobi Amusan ran another fantastic time which could have been an African record, but was a slightly wind assisted time of 12.44s (+2.2) to win the final of the women’s 100m hurdles in Florida.
Blessing Okagbare also put up an impressive outing at the Golden League to sustain a good build-up to the Tokyo Games.
NAN reports that the home based athletes in 10 sports events are currently camped in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Bayelsa.
The last phase of the camping will be in Kisarazu, Japan, from July 3 to 23, when the first batch of athletes will enter the Games Village for the Olympics proper.

The rescheduled Tokyo Olympics will hold from July 23 to Aug. 8. (NAN)
