THE Senate on Wednesday, September 27, swore in Andrew Uchendu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as lawmaker representing Rivers East Senatorial District, following the sacking of George Sekibo by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on August 24, 2017.

Uchendu, who dressed in traditional Niger Delta attire, was accompanied by his family and friends who besieged the gallery of the Senate chamber to witness the ceremony.

The appellate court had upheld the judgement of the Rivers State National and State Elections Petitions Tribunal, which sacked Sekibo.

The tribunal had in its judgement delivered on June 29, 2017, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Sekibo and directed that a fresh one be issued to Uchendu of the APC as the duly elected senator for Rivers-East.
