A 32-year-old unemployed man, Ola Dotun, was on Tuesday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging a Point Of Sale (POS) shop, stealing of POS machines and a mobile phone worth N550,000.

Dotun, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge of unlawful damage, stealing and assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 27, at Pipeline Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

Aigbokhan said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, one Dada Falahan, by hitting him with a bottle and damaged his POS shop.

He said that the defendant while damaging the complainant’s POS shop, stole two POS machines worth N50,000, a Samsung mobile phone worth N150,000 and a cash sum of N350,000.

Aigbokhan said that the stolen items valued at N550,000 belonged to the complainant, Falahan.

He said the offences contravened Sections 171, 287 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Chris Esemezie, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

Magistrate Miss K. A. Ariyo, however, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of 200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, adding that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 15 for mention. (NAN)
