Vice Chancellor UNILAG celebrates 60 at 62, launches book

PROF. Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, vice chancellor, University of Lagos has celebrated his 60th birthday and public presentation of his book at 62. This muddle was due to the compulsory lockdown in the peak of the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 when the academic icon actually clocked 60.

The event, which witnessed the public presentation of the anthology titled Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe @60: Audacity of Resilience took place on January 25, at the J. F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos.

The event saw the presence of dignitaries including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, executive governor of Lagos state, former vice chancellors of the University of Lagos, Lanre Tejuosho, pro-chancellor, University of Lagos, Martin Oloja, managing director and editor-in-chief, The Guardian. Also present at the occasion were some senators, obas, and white cap chiefs.

The commemoration of the birth of the number one person in the University of Lagos was chaired by Rotimi Jacobs who also shares the same birth year with the chief host.

In his remark, Jacobs recommended the book especially to the youths who seek to be future leaders.

“The book will inspire the proactive leaders particularly the youth. It is a book that will inspire this generation and enable us to move forward”, Jacobs said.

In his words, Prof. L. O. Chukwu, the editorial team lead described Ogundipe as one of the most successful vice chancellor in Nigeria.

“We attempted in this anthology to reveal the different facets in the life of Prof. Ogundipe, arguably one of the most successful vice chancellor in Nigeria today”, he said.

Reviewing the book, Oloja equally describe the chief host as a man who is also resilient in spiritual and family affair, noting that he is an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, who has also fraternized many into the faith. He also recommended the book to everyone seeking a leadership position in the academic world.

While rendering his words of appreciation, Prof. Ogundipe revealed that his achievements were divinely inspired in several different ways. He encouraged the youths and everyone never to give up in their chosen career.
