Coach Charles Kigbo of Karu United Volleyball Club, has urged the organisers of the just-concluded 2024 FCT Volleyball Challenge to organise more competitions to keep players busy in the sport.

Kigbo also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that organising more competitions would spur the players to engage more in the sport.

NAN reports that Karu United VC had defeated Defence spikers 3-2 in the final match of the male category to win the maiden edition of the 2024 FCT Volleyball challenge competition.

According to the coach, FCT volleyball challenge is one of the ways to develop the sport from the grassroots level.

“The players had shown a huge interest in game; some of them want to play volleyball as professionals.

“This is how to start a journey in life I will not be surprised if I see some of these players in the national team representing the country.

“Some of them can also be lucky to find themselves in foreign clubs.

“We could see the love of the sports and the ambience during the five days competitions last week,” he said.

He said the organiser could organise competitions at the end of each quarter in a year.

“If we organise competitions four time in a year, this will enhance the development of the sport in FCT.

“All the area councils in Abuja should also organise volleyball competitions in their various locations.

“The game of volleyball must be well-known in FCT just like football,” he said

NAN reports that reports that 54 teams comprising 30 male and 24 female teams participated in the maiden edition of the Volleyball Challenge

Each team received a prize money of N50,000 and certificate of participation.

Karu united VC, which finished first, got ₦250,000 as prize money, Defense Spikers VC finished second with ₦150,000 while Scorpion Spikers VC came third with ₦100,000

In the female category, Scorpion Spikers finished first with a prize of ₦250,000, life Camp VC came second with ₦150,000 while Defense Spikers VC were third with ₦100,000. (NAN)
