WOWICAN has trained 1,000 women in ICT – Director
General News
WOMEN Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), says the association has trained 1,000 women in basic ICT to enable them cope with evolving technological innovation in the society.
The Chairperson of WOWICAN, Mrs Rhoda Jahota said this during interdenominational prayer organised by the association to commemorate the Women’s Day Celebration in Jos on Tuesday.
Jahota said that technology had brought innovation that would provide better services for women globally .
She said education should be taken as a tool for women inclusion in all phases of life to create the needed awareness and sensitisation
Jahota described it as fashioned to keep a woman at home doing nothing as she could work online within the confines of her home.
The WOWICAN director of Planing, Research and Strategy, Mrs Agnes Lagang said the recent talk of cashless society had forcefully advanced the course of technology among women.
Lagang said the rural women were most affected as most of them had no bank account and had no or little knowledge about the internet.
She said technology had given rural women opportunities to build and share ideals beyond their immediate communities.
“So many traders went to the villages to buy food items and could not buy because the rural farmers say they are not transferring olmoney .
“So it is a call for the government and other relevant bodies to invest in training at the grassroot,” she said.
She said that women were good at multi-tasking and highly innovative if given equal opportunities to access resources, they would contribute immensely to economic development.
Lagang said the turnout of women from various religious bodies and organisations for the prayers was encouraging.(NAN)
