Youth Group commends Community Education Development

YOUTH Group in Ogbunike has been commended for adding value to the development of their community.

The commendation was made by the Traditional Ruler of Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area, LGA, John Umenyiora during the second edition of quiz competition organised for private and public schools in Ogbunike by the United Ogbunike Youth Association, UOYA.

Umenyiora, who was represented by one of the cabinet chiefs, Aninweta Onunkwo said he regretted the decline in education in the country, calling on government to place premium on education.

While urging other youths to embrace the virtue, the royal father promised to always support them to actualise their goals.

Earlier, the Ogbunike Youth Association, organisers of the competition enjoined the youths to perceive education as meal ticket for tomorrow.

The competition which was among primary six pupils across the schools was held in Ogbunike Town Hall.

In an opening remark, Ikechukwu Okonkwo, president of the youths, said the group was a non-governmental organisation registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, aimed at empowering youths in various ways.

Okonkwo, a special assistant to governor on Leisure Parks and Street Beautification, explained that the competition was an academic exercise geared toward building the knowledge of the students.

He solicited sponsorship from other well meaning individuals to enable them to improve and sustain the tempo in perpetuity.

It was observed that out of the 20 primary public and private schools in Ogbunike, only 16 participated in the competition.

At the end of the written competition, Miss Iruoma Otogboru from God’s Gift Nursery and Primary School emerged victorious and was presented N30,000.

Ifeanyi Tochukwu from Ogbangba Nursery and Primary School took second position with a prize of N20,000 while Agbo Chika from Mother of Christ Nursery and Primary School was placed third with a prize of N10,000.

There were also other consolation prizes to every other participants and teachers.

In their separate remarks, a stakeholder in the group, Anthony Ikeche and Vicar St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ogbunike, Rev Obidiah Okonkwo who was represented by Rev. Ifunanyi Mmaduka commended them, urging the leadership to expand their scope to cover secondary schools and universities too.

On behalf of the participants, Otogboru, the champion, who was elated said it would motivate her to improve on her academic excellence for a better tomorrow.
