Youth restiveness: Association to partner with Youth ministry to develop Ogbomoso
Politics
THE Ogbomoso Descendants Development Association (ODDA), an NGO says it will partner with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to fast track development in Ogbomoso, Oyo state.
Retired AVM Jacob Adigun, Chairman of the Association disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja when he led some executives on a visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare.
He said the visit was to show solidarity with him and the Soun of Ogbomoso over the unfortunate attack on them at the monarch’s palace on Sunday.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some youths had attacked the Soun’s palace on Sunday while the minister was there on a condolence visit over the death of a youth during the #END SARS protest in the ancient town.
Adigun who condemned the unfortunate killings in Ogbomoso during the protest, however described as sacrilegious the attack on the 94- year-old monarch’s palace.
He also described the minister as a great son of Ogbomoso who has been contributing immensely to the development of the town and youth development across the country.
“We came to visit the minister over the unfortunate incident at the Soun of Ogbomoso’s palace over the weekend.
“For a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is doing so much for the youth to be attacked by irate youth in the palace while they were having council of chiefs meeting, is condemnable and highly irrespresible.
”We have come to tell him, we are behind him because he is doing well for the nation,” he said.
Adigun said the Association will work closely with the ministry and other stakeholders to continue to empower Ogbomoso youth and bring accelerated development to the town.
The minister in his response thanked the Association for their concern and solidarity.
He said efforts were already underway to rebuild the palace and give it a facelift in the wake of the attack.
He described the attack as unfortunate while promising to work with relevant government agencies to improve security and social economic development of the town.
The minister said he had rushed down to Ogbomoso to visit the family of the slain youth, Isiaq Jimoh and offset the hospital bills of others injured in the hospital.
Dare described the Nigerian Youth as the greatest resource of the nation and stressed that all hands must be on deck to train and empower them.
