THREE men were on Monday docked in a Kado Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal conspiracy and theft.
The police charged Godspower Victor, 26; Jeremiah John, 30 and Victor Onyeka, 28 who all live in of Jahi Village, Abuja, with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, theft, criminal intimidation and resistance of arrest.
The Prosecution Council, Ms Helen Ochai, told the court that, on Sept.3, at about 2:40 p.m, the complainant Ms Kadijat Jumoke of Tiki Culture, Mabushi, Abuja, reported the matter at Mabushi Police Station.
Ochai, alleged that at about 1 a.m, the defendants conspired among themselves and broke into the complainants house.
She alleged that the defendants stole two plasma television worth N1million.
The prosecution counsel also told the court that the defendant’s intimidated and resisted arrest, also threatened to kill the policemen if they attempted to arrest them, but were eventually arrested.
Ochai told the court that during police investigation the three defendants confessed to committing the offence.
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 79, 348, 288, 397 and 172 of the penal code law.
The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Charity Nwosu, counsel to the defendants prayed the court to grant her clients bail, citing Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
Nwosu told the court that the accused were still presumed innocent until proven guilty and assured the court that the defendants would not jump bail.
The prosecution counsel, however, did not oppose the prayers of the defense counsel further urged the court to use its discretion to grant the defendants bail.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum N500, 000 with one surety each in like sum.
Wakili, ordered that the sureties must be reliable with a means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He added that the sureties must also provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The Judge adjourned the matter until Dec.20, for hearing. (NAN)
