Rasheed Abiodun Gbadamosi, economist, former minister of national planning, 70, December 7. Born in Lagos, he studied in Britain and the United States. He was managing director, RAG Company Limited and also director, Ivory Products Limited. Gbadamosi is former chairman, Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, PPPRA.
Ogbonnaya Onu, former governor of old Abia State and former national chairman, defunct, All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, 62, December 2. Born in Uburu, Ebonyi State, he studied at the University of Lagos and University of California, Berkeley, USA. He began his public service career as a teacher at St Augustine’s Junior Seminary, Ezzamgbo, in 1973. Onu later became a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He served as the first executive governor of Abia State, 1992-1993 and was the presidential candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party.
Adetunji Idowu Olurin, retired brigadier-general and former sole administrator of Ekiti State, 69, December 3. Born in Ilaro, Ogun State, he was educated at Christ Church School, Odo Ona, Ibadan, 1955-1957; Local Government Authority Modern School, 1958; Egbado College and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, 1966; Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna, 1967-1970; School of Infantry, Quetta, Pakistan, 1973; Army Command and Staff College, Jaji, 1977-1978, and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, near Jos, 1987. Olurin was appointed military governor, Oyo State, 1985-1988 and director of logistics, Nigeria Army headquarters, Lagos, 1988-1989.
Bilikisu Yusuf, journalist and female activist, 61, December 2. Born in Kano, Kano State, she was educated at Ansar Udeen Primary School, Kano, 1958-1964; Government Girl’s College, Kano, 1970-1971; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1972-1975; University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, 1980-1981, and Moscow Institute of Journalism, 1986-1987. Yusuf started her working career as information officer, Kano State Ministry of Information, 1976-1978; producer, programmes division, Radio Kano, 1978-1979; deputy assistant editor, Triumph newspaper, Kano, 1981; editor, Sunday Triumph, 1983-1987; editor, New Nigerian newspapers, 1987-1990, and editor, Citizen magazine, 1990. She has also published many books among them are: Women in Politics, Mass Media in Politics and The Political Future of Nigeria.
Frank Kokori, trade unionist and former secretary-general, National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, 69, December 7. Born in Warri, Delta State, he was educated at the University of Ibadan and Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands. He was a former member of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and former vice-president, African Federation Petroleum Committee of the International Labour Organisation, ILO.
Resigned
Christopher Kolade, former chairman, Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, resigned his appointment on November 23, citing advanced age as reason. Kolade, who was made SURE-P chairman since the interventionist outfit came into being in February 2012, conveyed his desire to resign from public life through a letter, dated September 25, 2013 and addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan. He requested the president to name a replacement, so that he can effectively disengage by the end of November, ahead of his 81st birthday in December.
