AN octogenarian, Mrs Modupe Ojuri, a retiree from the Nigerian Prisons, and other elderly persons, on Saturday decried the late arrival of INEC officials to Ward D, Polling Unit 090 in Ijegun/Ikotun.

Ojuri said INEC officials arrived at the polling unit at 12 noon, which was five hours after she arrived at the polling unit.

“I’ve never missed any election all through my years of service, even after my retirement as a prison staff.

“I chose to undergo all the stress to wait from 7.00 a.m. because of my children’s future.

“Waiting in the sun for hours is a sacrifice I am prepared to make for the future of my children instead of sleeping in my house.

“I am voting because of my children, I want my children to have a bright future, I want to contribute to the future of my country by voting the right candidate,” she said.

At Polling Unit 092, Mr Jimi Aigbe, the Community Development Association Chairman of the area, lamented that his polling unit was moved to another place without being informed.

Aigbe said he and others that were affected had prepared at their point from 6.00 a.m. and waited up to 11.00 a.m. before they were informed through a message that their polling unit had been moved.

He said some voters were automatically disenfrachised as they returned to their himes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Polling Units 230 and 090 voters from the same ward D at Ijegun/Ikotun were yet to identify their polling units as at 1.20 p.m.

Furthermore, some party agents they observed that the Labour Party logo on the Senatorial ballot sheet was omitted.

One of the INEC officials, who spoke under conditions of anonymity, said the commission lacked sufficient manpower to carry out its functions effectively.

They complained that they had to carry out their function in the sun without canopies nor umbrella.
