A Family Court in Ikeja on Thursday ordered the remand of one Ikechukwu Jibiro, for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs S. Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of the defendant due to want of jurisdiction, ordered his remand at the Kirikiri Correctional facility, Lagos.
Kubeinje, thereafter, adjourned the matter until Oct. 25 for mention.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant, 27, of Ijaye area, Ogba, Lagos, was docked on a two-count charge of sexual assault and attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that on Aug. 6 at noon, the defendant had sexual intercourse with the victim at Daramola Street, Ijaye, Ogba, Lagos, without her consent.
She said the defendant, who sexually assaulted the girl by forcefully touching her sensitive body part, had attempted to have unlawful carnal knowledge by penetration.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 262 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 262 states that “Any person who attempts to commit the offence of rape or sexual assaults by penetration is guilty and liable to imprisonment for 14 years.”
Section 263 stipulates three years’ imprisonment for any person who sexually touches another without his/her consent. (NAN)
