COVID-19: Ondo lawmaker distributes food items, cash to widows
Coronavirus Pandemic
A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Toluwani Borokini, on Friday distributed food items and cash to widows and other vulnerable persons to mitigate the effects of the lockdown aimed at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus.
Borokini, the lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency 1 in the Assembly, said the gesture was part of the campaign promises he made to assist vulnerable persons in his constituency.
The lawmaker, who visited residents of the constituency for the exercise, said the palliatives would go a long way in cushioning the economic and social effects of the pandemic.
” I have not relented in cushioning the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in my constituency since its outbreak.
” We are here again to put smiles on the faces of our people by distributing another set of foodstuff comprising bags of rice, beans, semovita, spaghetti, salt and noodles.
“The first set was targeted toward our ward leaders in the constituency and some community members; but now, we are focusing more on widows and the less privileged.
“We will not relent in the bid to reach out to more people in my constituency even though I cannot cater for all their needs.
” But I won’t relent in doing what is within my capacity, ” he said.
Borokini, however, stressed the need for the people to be law abiding and adhere strictly to the state government’s directives aimed at preventing the spread of the pandemic.
Mrs Grace Balogun, who spoke on behalf of the widows, commended the lawmaker for his philanthropic acts since assumption of office. (NAN)
