AFTER the Super Eagles won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, federal and state government have rewarded them with cash, national honour and land. President Goodluck Jonathan gave each player N5 million, a plot of land in Abuja and national honours. This largesse has continued to generate a lot of mixed reactions among Nigerians. Some believe that they merited the rewards, while others said they didn’t deserve them.  Below are what Nigerians think about the rewards.

Kolawole Olowoegba, Student: Its ok. A plot of land in Abuja, N5 million and national honour are not too much for them. The issue now is for them to replicate that by qualifying for the world cup.

Akolawole Shoremi, Convener of National Youth Reform: It is above mediocrity. But if the total cash won for being the winner is N224 million, why should they be showered with gifts above N440 million? What is special about winning a cup to make them deserve national honours? Where are the many patriots and retired soldiers who risked their lives at gunpoint for this nation? You see, when a country is governed by fools, no wise decision would ever be made. It’s absurd, wasteful and extravagant.

Animashaun Habass Kahyode, Student:  It’s ok. I think they deserve whatever the government gave to them. They made this country proud by bringing back the glorious days. Don’t you think so?

Obinna Vincent, Student: I am happy for them and the president for rewarding them very well. For me, I would advise those guys to go and secure the land before the end of this dispensation. This is Nigeria, anything can happen when Jonathan is no longer there.

Vincent Okoro, Student: I am happy that the Super Eagles are the king of African football but I don’t like the way government is paying attention to football alone. There are other sports that can bring glory to this country, but nobody cares about them. Those who won gold and silver medals at the London 2012 paraolympic games for this country, what did the government give to them? Must everybody be a footballer?

Patrick Ogene, Student: I’m very happy for them. Thank you, Stephen Keshi, thank you President Goodluck Jonathan and thank you Nigerians for remembering these boys that did our country proud. My prayer for them is to win the FIFA Confederation cup in Brazil and become African number one.

  1. There are certainly numerous details like that to take into consideration. That’s a fantastic point to bring up. I offer you the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up exactly where probably the most fundamental factor is going to be working in honest superior faith. I don?t know if most desirable practices have emerged about points like that, but I’m sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls really feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

  2. The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I in fact thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about some thing that you simply could fix in case you werent too busy seeking for attention.
