Man, 37, docked for alleged N106,000 fraud

A 37-year-old man, Omigbiyegbe Adedapo, was on Monday, docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun for alleged N106,000 fraud.

Adedapo is facing a three-count charge of fraud, unlawfully obtaining money under pretence and unlawful conversion of money.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in August 2022 at Olurin St., Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant unlawfully obtained the sum of N80,000 from the Complainant, one Abiola Hammed under the pretence to supply her one Eskimo female dog which he failed to do.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also unlawfully obtained the sum of N26,000 from the complainant under the pretence to supply her dog feed worth the amount but failed to do so.

He said that the defendant unlawfully converted the total sum of N106, 000 which he fraudulently obtained from the complainant to his personal use.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Sarumi ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means as well as resides within the court’s jurisdictions.

She said that the surety must be a land owner with three years tax clearance certificate and his address must be verified by the prosecutor and must provide the last month’s utility bill.

She adjourned the case till June 28 for hearing. (NAN)
