THE National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said it would work with the Osun Amotekun Corps to tackle the menace of human trafficking and related offences in the state.
Mr Effe Ekirika, the Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Ondo Zonal Command, stated this on Wednesday, during a visit to the office of the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, in Osogbo.
Ekirika, who applauded the Amotekun Corps for its accomplishments in tackling crimes and their perpetrators in the region, stated that NAPTIP was encouraged to partner with the South-West Security Network (Amotekun), based on their achievements.
“We are ready to partner with relevant stakeholders, to reduce the rate of human trafficking, child labour, sexual exploitation, and other related offences in the state, region and Nigeria.
“We strive to prevent all forms of human degradation and exploitation, through the coordinated use of the nation’s crime prevention and law enforcement resources, to stamp out human trafficking,” he said
He said NAPTIP also worked to prevent and protect Nigerians, especially women and children, from dehumanising, exploitative employment and usage, adding that they ensured rehabilitation and effective reintegration of victims of trafficking, back into the society.
“As we all know, NAPTIP is a focal agency of the Federal Government, saddled with the responsibilities of coordinating all trafficking in persons law, arrest, and prosecution of offenders.
“We also rehabilitated victims and prevent occurrence through sensitisation and partnership.
“We are more determined for synergy and collaboration, to collectively eradicate these heinous crimes across the board.” he said.
The Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, said Amotekun was ready to collaborate with NAPTIP, in curbing trafficking and illegal migration.
“We do collaborate with the police, anytime we arrest criminals, we do necessary documentation and hand them over to Police.
“We will collaborate with the NAPTIP in the areas of intelligence sharing, including any other assistance within our reach.
“As a security agency, we cannot do it alone, but with synergy, we will kick human traffickers and criminals out of the state.” he said. (NAN)
