Obi and Tinubu’s team engage in war of words

THE remarks by Dele Alake, one of Tinubu’s spokesperson, that Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, cannot name any legacies for his years as governor of Anambra State and, therefore, cannot be compared to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, counterpart has attracted some reactions from the Obi’s media office
Reacting to Alake’s remarks, the Obi-Datti media office noted that Obi, and Tinubu, APC presidential candidate cannot be comparable.
According to the media team, while Obi is highly verifiable, Tinubu is not, while Obi has an origin, Tinubu has none, Obi has educational credentials, his counterpart has affidavits, Obi is whole and hearty and ready to face the challenge of leading Nigeria, the other candidate acts by proxy.
“Yes, they are not comparable; Alake’s man says it’s his turn to rule Nigeria, Obi says it’s the turn of Nigerians to take back their country..
“Indeed, there is no basis for comparison between the duo.”
In response to what they referred to as a groundless remark, the Obi-Datti media office said that, Tinubu’s only achievement that can be remembered is his huge internal revenue harnessing which has only increased his family’s income.
Referring to Alake as one of ‘Tinubu’s Attack Dogs’, Obi-Datti media office also noted that Alake is certainly among those Lagosians, who believe Nigeria begins and ends in Lagos and may not have crossed the Niger in his lifetime.
“He might not have been to Anambra and had been too biased to read up the LP candidate’s records in the public domain.
“Suffice it to say that Obi’s records won him numerous awards, including “Governor of the Decade” while Alake’s paymaster ruled Lagos State.
“The most the media can remember about Alake’s principal is his huge internal revenue harnessing, which we now know has boosted one Bourdillon family’s income.”
The media team also refuted Alake’s claim that Obi’s business is anchored on imports that destroy the economy and that he was no when his principal struggled for democracy.
In response to this, the Obi-Datti media team said that Alake was either mischievous or ignorant about Obi being the only chief executive of his era with the most investment of state funds that not only boosted the economy, but also provided jobs.
“Not to talk of Obi’s education policy that has taken Anambra State from number 29 to 1 in the School Certificate performance index.
“If Alake is current he should not have celebrated Asiwaju’s role in democracy struggle because it has been diminished since it was revealed that he lobbied to be made a Minister in late Sani Abacha’s government and only joined NADECO after he was rejected by the junta.
However, Alake gave out one fact that the Media Office agrees with: indeed, Obi cannot be compared to Alake’s candidate, the Obi-Datti tag team said..
“We are in sympathy with these attack dogs who need to keep attacking the man they claim has no structure and is just a social media wave instead of selling their structured candidate. All they seek is to mention Obi to be able to trend.
“The Obi-Datti tag team is in the market with their content which is resonating with Nigerians, let Alake’s enter the stage and sell himself, never again will anybody become Nigeria’s president through fake and unsubstantiated packaging,” it added.
The media office also called on all supporters of the Obi-Datti movement to always remain Obidient and focused on a new Nigeria of our dreams.
Realnews reports that Alake who is the Director of Strategic Communication for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign, triggered the war of words during a TVC program, Journalists Hangout.
In the interview he alleged that Obi’s social media popularity was only the ‘aggravation of all those pent up anger’ as a result of the failures of the government that is being channeled toward Obi.
“However, social media is not going to determine the 2023 elections. It has never determined any election in Nigeria to a large extent and it is not going to determine the 2023 election.
“Neither is it going to determine our elections in several years to come.”
“The population of the social media warriors will not necessarily translate into votes, especially among rural dwellers. Whoever is basing Obi’s popularity on social media has missed it,” said Alake.
He further noted that there was no basis for comparing Tinubu and Obi. Many of Obi’s social media supporters were in the politicking for entertainment and not because they were committed, Alake claimed.
“If you put all the antecedents of the candidates on a table, Obi will trail far behind the others. There is no basis for comparison between Obi and Tinubu.
“The difference is clear. It’s like that between the fluke and the substance.
“There is no gainsaying the fact of all the candidates competing for votes to solve these problems, Tinubu stands far ahead of the competitors,” he noted. “In terms of track record of performance as a governor, in terms of leadership, social engineering, and mental development, Tinubu is an embodiment of all the leadership qualities for a country eager to develop.”
According to him, Tinubu, a former Lagos governor, left records yet to be beaten and built the Lekki Free Trade Zone and a new city – the Atlantic City out of the Atlantic Ocean.
“While the then federal government was sand-filling the ocean, literally pouring sand worth billions of naira into the ocean. Tinubu conceived a permanent and enduring solution.
“We travelled to South Africa. We went to the Netherlands and found a solution that today led to the Atlantic City.” He added.
