TRADERS of the Relief Market in Ogbaru LGA led by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Ogoogu Nwanodi have commended Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo (CFR) for restoring peace in the market through the appointment of the new leadership and tax exemption for wheelbarrow pushers and petty traders in Anambra state.

Addressing the traders during their meeting at the Market Secretariat, the Chairman of all the line Chairmen and Secretaries, Ogbaru Relief Market, Mr Chukwunonye Anaka thanked Governor Soludo for dissolving the past leadership in the market who according to him were brought in through a fraudulent election that caused serious crisis in the market.

Another stakeholder in the market, Dr. Victor Nwawuzie also applauded the state government for intervening in the market leadership crisis and the traders for embracing peace saying that they are now waiting for the Governor to make a pronouncement on when a free and fair election will be conducted in the market.

Another major stakeholder in the market, Chief Anthony Emedosi while appreciating the efforts of the new leadership in the market, led by Chief Ogboogu Nwanodi, advised the state Governor to always investigate any issue brought to him against the market before taking action as some people are mischief makers who will go to any length to bring back the old order for their selfish ends.

In his own address, the Chairman of Ogbaru Relief Market, Chief Ogboogu Nwanodi commended the traders for their huge support, appreciated the relative peace and unity in the market. He promised to work towards repositioning the market for good.

Chief Ogboogu however solicited for government’s assistance on the thirteen toilets currently under construction in the market pointing out that they are working round the clock to ensure that the market is clean in conformity with government’s clean and green policy.

Chief Nwanodi reminded the traders of the need to comply with government’s approved tax, sanitation guidelines, security measures among others. He however told them that nobody should collect tax or levies from those that government has exempted.

This reporter interviewed Kenneth Eze, Peter Okwuchukwu and Emmanuel Osulo, all wheel barrow operators in the market who confirmed that they don’t pay barrow levies since government made the announcement. They asked this reporter to convey their gratitude to Governor Soludo.

During the meeting, the traders unanimously agreed to suspend the immediate past Chairman of all line Chairmen and Secretaries for his involvement in the brutalization and harassment of traders in the previous fraudulent election.
