A group under the aegis of Bauchi state Concerned  Citizens,  on Thursday urged the state governor- elect, Malam Bala Mohammed,  to live up to his promise of conducting local government elections during his tenure.

The group made the call in a statement issued by its Secretary, Mr Aliyu Ladan, and Publicity Secretary, Mr Bulus Gambo, which copy was issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Bauchi.

The group said conducting local government election would bring people closer to the government while development and dividend of democracy would be spread across the state.

They lamented that past administrations refused to conduct council polls, but rather preferred to deny the third tier of government, their monthly allocations from the Federation Account.

According to the group, local governments councils have become conduit pipes through which people’s money are being siphoned.

It therefore appealed to the incoming administration to stop the trend and allow local government councils to take charge of their affairs. (NAN)
